Carey’s Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Education Program (DNP to PhD) prepares DNP graduates in faculty roles to seek tenure track positions that require a PhD. The Doctor of Philosophy program is a terminal degree designed to prepare DNP graduates to serve as nurse scholars and nurse educators. This program may be completed part-time in 8 terms (24 months).
Delivery Method
This program is 100% online with the exception of four weekend meetings per year and is convenient for the full-time working student.
Applicant Prerequisites & Requirements
Prospective Students must:
• Complete application for general admission to William Carey University and pay all necessary fees.
• Submit a completed nursing application (after completing general admission application).
• Submit official transcripts from each school attended prior via e-script or mail to Registrar’s office.
• Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on all DNP coursework.
• Hold a DNP from an accredited school of nursing.
• Hold a current unencumbered license with no pending action in any state. (The unencumbered license must be maintained throughout program enrollment)
• If previously enrolled in a PhD program, the applicant must provide a letter of good standing from that program.
• Provide three reference forms (two from individuals who can attest to research and scholarship and one personal reference), updated curriculum vitae, and a 1-2 page Scholarly Narrative of personal philosophy of nursing education and goals.
• Demonstrate competency of scholarly writing through submission of a GRE Analytical Writing Score of at least 4.0 in the past five years, completion of Academic Writing for Doctoral Students with a grade of B or better, or successful review of a writing submission.
• Prior to taking Advanced Research Methodology, students must demonstrate basic competency in statistics as evidenced by successful completion of an undergraduate or graduate level statistics course with a B or better in the past ten years, or substantial experience in nursing research projects.
• Demonstrate computer literacy, including proficiency in word processing, email correspondence, and use of the internet.
• Submit a valid criminal background check, or complete one at orientation.
